Model UN Climate Summit
In this multi-session, immersive role-playing activity, students represent the interests of individual nations as they negotiate a global climate agreement. Using the EN-ROADS climate modeling simulator, students assess the projected impacts of policy decisions in real time, adjusting strategies as negotiations unfold. Each delegation must grapple with the economic, political, and social realities of the country it represents while working toward an agreement that limits global temperature rise to below 2 °C.
Through this process, students experience firsthand the complexity of climate governance and the challenges of addressing a global socio-ecological crisis that touches every aspect of modern life. The activity builds systems thinking, negotiation skills, and a nuanced understanding of how science, policy, and power interact on the global stage.
