Sky Island Alliance Expedition

On this expedition, students traveled to the Chiricahua Mountains to partner with the Sky Island Alliance in conducting wildlife surveys and hands-on restoration work within one of the Southwest’s most biologically diverse regions. Through field research and guided restoration efforts, students explored concepts of biodiversity, evolutionary biology, and conservation while contributing directly to the stewardship of this unique ecological corridor.

Living and working together in a remote setting, students also took collective responsibility for camp life - managing shared resources, cooking, cleaning, and making decisions as a group. This service-learning experience emphasized that conservation is not only a scientific endeavor, but a collaborative practice rooted in care, responsibility, and relationship to place.
